Open role · Full-time · On site in Surat
HR Manager
Hiring, onboarding, reviews and the everyday culture of a small design studio that is growing.
The role
What you will do.
This is the first proper HR role in the studio, so it is as much about building the process as running it. You will do all of it yourself rather than manage a team that does.
- Run hiring end to end: write the role, source candidates, screen, schedule, and keep every applicant informed, including the ones we turn down.
- Design the first week a new designer or developer gets, and make sure it actually happens rather than sitting in a document.
- Keep the paperwork straight: offer letters, contracts, attendance, leave, and the policies a growing studio needs in writing before it needs them.
- Run a review cycle that is fixed, written and on time, with feedback specific enough for someone to act on.
- Own the everyday rhythm of the studio: the weekly review, the calendar, the small things that decide whether good people stay.
- Handle grievances and exits with discretion, and report back honestly on why people leave.
- Track what hiring costs and how long it takes, and make both numbers better.
Requirements
What we are looking for.
- Two or more years in an HR role, ideally somewhere small enough that you handled the whole cycle yourself.
- Practical knowledge of Indian employment paperwork: offer letters, contracts, statutory basics, and the sense to know when to get advice on the rest.
- Able to read a design or development job well enough to screen for it, or determined to learn it quickly.
- Clear written English, plus Gujarati or Hindi for local hiring and day-to-day work.
- Genuinely discreet. People will tell you things and it has to stop with you.
- Comfortable telling the person who runs the studio something they would rather not hear, early, while it is still cheap to fix.
- Useful but not required: experience hiring designers or developers, or setting up HR processes from scratch.
